Peoria Rivermen News Release
Peoria Rivermen head coach Jean-Guy Trudel has announced that defenseman Bryant Doerrsam has been waived.
Doerrsam was traded to Peoria from the Louisiana Ice Gators on Nov. 24 in exchange for cash, but never passed his physical. He was placed on the 30-day injured reserve on Thursday before being released. The 24-year-old never stepped foot on the ice for the Rivermen.
Earlier this season, Doerrsam played four games for the Ice Gators and recorded four penalty minutes with a plus-1 rating. Last year, the Niagara Falls, Ontario native appeared in 39 games for the SPHL's Huntsville Havoc, where he notched five goals and 108 penalty minutes in his first professional campaign.
Prior to turning pro, the 6'2, 195-pound enforcer played two seasons at Queens University, as well as two seasons of junior hockey in the Ontario Junior Hockey League. There, he suited up for the Stouffville Spirit and Hamilton Red Wings for a combined 89 games.
Following a weekend off, the Rivermen will return to action on Friday, Dec. 20 with a 7:15 p.m. puck drop against the Bloomington Thunder at Carver Arena. Peoria will wear custom "Central Illinois STRONG" jerseys to support tornado relief in central Illinois, which will be auctioned off after the game. All proceeds will benefit local charities and their relief efforts. It's also UnityPoint Health-Methodist "Puck Night." The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive a limited edition Rivermen puck.
The game can be heard locally on CD Country 107.9 FM or online at www.cd1079.net . Fans can also follow along via the live video and audio stream at www.americaonesports.com.
