
Pensacola Falls to Louisiana 4-3 in OT

LAFAYETTE, LA - T he Pensacola Ice Flyers looked to finally get a win against the Louisiana IceGators but tonight proved not to be the night. Two goals in the third and a late goal in OT sealed the Gators' comeback in a 4-3 OT victory.
The Ice Flyers came out firing and were determined to get a leg up on the IceGators. It didn't take long for Pensacola to strike as Adam Pawlick fired a long blast that beat Louisiana's Kiefer Smiley with the game less than a minute old. Corey Banfield and Nate Peterson assisted. For Peterson, this was his first game with the Ice Flyers. The Ice Flyers took a 2-0 lead when Brett Lutes scored an unassisted, shorthanded goal. Three of Lutes' six goals this season have been shorthanded. Louisiana's Kirk Byczynski got the Gators on the board with a power play goal with 3:08 left in the first.
The Flyers kept their foot on the pedal in the second and pushed their lead to 3-1 with Steve Whitely scored a power play goal 10:13 into the frame. Podge Turnbull and Paul Rodrigues got the assists on the goal.
Louisiana fought back in the third and tied the game up with two goals from former Ice Flyer Chris Wilson. With no additional scoring in regulation, the teams headed to overtime tied at three. Louisiana sealed the win with a goal from Jake Trask with only 34 seconds left in OT.
MacKinnon stopped 32 of Louisiana's 36 shots but picked up the overtime loss to push his record since rejoining the Ice Flyers to 2-1-1
The Ice Flyers have the rest of the weekend off and return to the Hangar on Tuesday, Dec. 17 to take on the rival Mississippi Surge with puck drop scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
