PEORIA, IL - The Peoria Rivermen took the lead 3:48 into the game and held the lead the rest of the way to beat the Macon Mayhem 3-1 Friday night. The win improves the Rivermen to 7-3-1 on the season with a rematch against the Mayhem set for Saturday night in Peoria.
The Rivermen opened the scoring at the 3:48 mark of period number one when Adam Stuart walked into the low slot and got a backhand by Mayhem goaltender Garrett Bartus for the 1-0 lead. Peoria opened the lead to 2-0 at the 1:55 mark of the second when a rebound from Stuart's shot was buried by Terrence Wallin for Wallin's first professional goal.
The Mayhem got on the board in the third with a powerplay goal by Austin Daae assisted by Anton Lennartsson and Daniel Gentzler at the 9:33 mark. The Rivermen got back to a two-goal lead with Chris Wilson's first goal in a Rivermen uniform at 17:07 of the third to put the game away.
Rank stopped 36 of 37 shots against, one save shy of his season high set November 3 at Mississippi. The win in goal is Rank's second in a row, and he has not lost a regulation game since the November 3 game at Mississippi.
Notes: Wallin's goal was the first of his professional career, and his second pro point in his ninth career game...Wilson's goal was his third of the season and first since joining the Rivermen in a Wednesday trade with Louisiana...Rank stopped 36 shots for his second straight win, and is now 5-0-1 since his last regulation loss November 3 at Mississippi...Stuart notched his second multi-point game of the season, and his first since November 6 at Louisiana...The Rivermen and Mayhem rematch Saturday night at Carver Arena with a 7:05 puck drop...The broadcast can be heard, starting with the pregame show at 6:45 at portal.stretchinternet.com/rivermen
