This past Wednesday the Rivermen completed a trade with Louisiana to send winger Luke Sandler to the IceGators and bring winger Chris Wilson to the Rivermen. Sandler had scored one goal in eight games in Peoria while Wilson had two goals and two assists in as many games with the IceGators. The Rivermen will be skating one man short for their two games with Macon this weekend because Sandler was issued a two-game suspension as a member of the Rivermen after he got a five-minute major and game misconduct for boarding in Sunday's game against Louisiana.
BRINGING IN THE CALVALRY
On Tuesday the Rivermen placed RW Mike Gurtler on the 30-day IR with a lower-body injury suffered in Sunday's game against the IceGators, and signed RW Nick Grasso to a contract. Before his injury Gurtler had played in all 10 games for Peoria, totaling five points on two goals and three assists to go with six penalty minutes. Grasso had previously been playing in the ECHL with the Quad City Mallards, where he played in three games this season with Quad City, posting two assists. Last season in 63 games with the Mallards Grasso scored six goals and 10 assists along with a +15 rating.
THE WHOLE SHOOTING MATCH
After last weekend's series the Rivermen lead the SPHL in fewest shots allowed per game at 26.7 while the Peoria offense is fifth in shots taken per game at 32.20. By comparison, Macon enters play tonight eighth in the league in both categories, taking 29.80 shots on goal per game while allowing 33.80.
WHAT'S AHEAD
After tonight the Rivermen and Mayhem will play one more contest tomorrow night, also at 7:05 from Carver Arena. After that, the Rivermen will take their first road trip in a month when they travel to Knoxville for a Thursday night game with the Ice Bears before heading to Southaven, Mississippi for games Friday and Saturday against the Mississippi RiverKings.
