RiverKings Stay Hot, Knock off Knoxville, 4-3

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Matt Beer had two points and Peter Di Salvo made 29 saves as the Mississippi RiverKings (9-2-0) knocked off the Knoxville Ice Bears (4-8-2) 3-2 in Knoxville on Friday night.

The Ice Bears found the back first late in the opening frame. With the Corey Bellamy called for holding and Peter Di Salvo called for delay of game, Doug Reid ripped a slap shot past the RiverKings netminder to give the Ice Bears a 1-0 lead.

The second period featured the teams trading goals. Matt Beer picked up his first point of the game when his backhand shot slipped past Braely Torris and tied the game at one. Charlie Mosey added to the RiverKings lead when he took a pass from Beer in the low slot and one-timed it past the Knoxville netminder on the power play to give the RiverKings a 2-1 lead just past the halfway point of the second period. Knoxville tied the game at two just two minutes later when Zack LaRue beat Di Salvo on the short side and the teams entered the third period tied.

The third period was all RiverKings. Devin Mantha gave the RiverKings their second lead of the game when he buried a rebound past the pads of Torris 7:22 into the third. Linden Bahm sealed the victory with an empty net goal with under a minute left as the RiverKings beat the Ice Bears for the second time this season.

Peter Di Salvo (5-2-0) picked up the win after stopping 29 of 31 shots against. Braely Torris (1-4-1) took the loss after turning aside 19 of 22 shots. Both teams were 1-3 with the man advantage.

The RiverKings return home on Saturday night, November 28 to face the Ice Bears once again for the annual Teddy Bear Toss benefiting Toys for Tots. Fans are encouraged to bring a new, plush toy to throw onto the ice when the RiverKings score their first goal. If the RiverKings collect over 2,000 bears, all fans in attendance will receive a free ticket to a December or January home game.
