Louisiana IceGators News Release

Columbus, Ga.--Two days after playing their worst game of the season, the Louisiana IceGators bounced back with one of their strongest performances so far this year.

The IceGators scored 30 seconds into Friday night's game against the Columbus Cottonmouths and never let up, taking a 5-0 shutout victory. Jeremy Boyer led the team with two goals, including that opening score. Goalie Eric Levine, whom the IceGators acquired earlier this week, was perfect between the pipes, stopping all 44 Cottonmouth shots.

The IceGators return home Saturday night to play the Huntsville Havoc. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.

"This was our best overall game of the year," said IceGators head coach Drew Omicioli. "We came out flying and never looked back. We capitalized early on chances that came from hard work and playing together as a unit down low. I'm beyond happy with our performance."

The IceGators tacked on two more goals in the first period after Boyer's quick opening score. Blake Hietala recorded a short-handed goal 7:32 into the frame off a helper from Jake Hauswirth. Boyer added another goal five minutes later off assists from Tyler Barr and IceGators newcomer Mike Kavanaugh.

John Daniels scored his fourth goal in the last three games off a Hauswirth assist to give the IceGators a 4-0 lead at the 4:26 mark of the second period. Hauswirth then joined the scoring party, chipping in a shot off a Daniels feed with 3:52 left in the frame.

Omicioli was high on his newest players after seeing them in action.

"The additions of (defensemen) Kavanaugh and (Brad) Bourke were great for us because they allowed our defense to move the puck very well, leading to a great transition style of play," Omicioli said. "Levine looked great, and having the duo (of him and fellow goalie Adam Courchaine) is going to make us a dangerous team."

Now, the IceGators set their sights on continuing their winning ways as they return to the friendly confines of the Cajundome.

"This was our fifth game in eight nights with 40 hours of bus travel," Omicioli said. "Now, we get to go home and get ready for Huntsville."
