Peoria Rivermen News Release

Fairborn, Ohio - A week off for the Peoria Rivermen didn't seem to recharge their batteries, as they were nipped 2-1 on the road on Sunday afternoon by the Dayton Bombers before a crowd 2,164 at the Nutter Center.

Peoria played last Sunday in Wheeling before its Christmas break, losing 3-2. The Rivermen equaled a season worst with their fourth straight loss in regulation.

Peoria (7-13-3, 17 points) fell to 3-8-1 on the road this season, after losing just seven games in regulation all of last season away from home with a 23-7-6 mark. Peoria dropped to 3-2-1 against the Bombers, remaining four points back of them in the North Division standings with three games in hand. Dayton (10-15-1, 21 points) improved to 7-6-1 on home ice and snapped a six-game winless streak (0-5-1) with the victory.

Peoria goaltender Alfie Michaud (2-5-2) turned away 29 of 31 Dayton chances in the losing effort, while Dayton rookie Mike Ayers (4-7-0) stopped 25 of 26 shots in the win.

The Bombers took a 1-0 lead at 6:19 of the second period. Ben Knopp cut down the left side of the Peoria zone and underneath rookie defenseman James Sanford, slipping his fifth goal of the season between the legs of Michaud from the top of the goal crease.

Dayton made it 2-0 on the power play with 2:13 remaining in the middle stanza. Janne Jokila fed Aaron Foster at the right side of the left face-off circle for a one-time snap shot inside the left goal post about a foot off the ice.

The Rivermen got on the board with just 40 seconds left in the second. Warren Toews, back in the Peoria end in the middle of the ice, snapped the puck ahead to Tyler Rennette, who broke into the Dayton end and rifled the puck over the shoulder of Ayers for his second goal in as many games and sixth tally of the year.

On Tuesday, December 28, the Rivermen return home to battle the Fresno Falcons in the first of two in a row between the clubs. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at Carver Arena. The following night - Wednesday, December 29 - Peoria and Fresno face off again at 7:00 p.m.
