Rivermen Home Opener to be Declared Bruce Saurs Hockey Night in Peoria

Peoria Rivermen News Release

The Peoria Rivermen are proud to announce their opening night game, scheduled for Saturday, October 26th, will be declared as Bruce Saurs Hockey Night in Peoria.

City Mayor Jim Ardis will be on hand to help honor the 87-year old part-owner of the team, who is regarded as one of the main reasons professional hockey has survived in Peoria. Mayor Ardis will also give a proclamation that all future Rivermen home openers be known by that name.

Saurs, a Peoria native, owned the Rivermen for almost 20 years, throughout their IHL, ECHL and AHL eras. When the Blues left Peoria last spring, Saurs returned with a new ownership group to operate the Rivermen in the Southern Professional Hockey League for their 32nd season.

Peoria will also turn back that clock on ticket prices for its home opener. Upper bowl tickets will be available for just $8, matching the price of those seats when Saurs first purchased the Rivermen from the Peoria Civic Center in 1989.

Season tickets are now on sale for the 2013-14 SPHL season. Call 309-676-1040 to secure your seats or for more information.
