Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- Mississippi RiverKings Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Derek Landmesser announced today that the team has re-signed forward Matt Harrington and signed rookie defenseman Ryan Hill for the 2013-14 season. Terms and conditions were not released.

Harrington, 22, rejoins the RiverKings organization after a successful 2012-13 campaign with the team. In 36 games, the 5-foot-11, 193-pound forward tallied 15 goals and 19 points.

"'Harry' is a very responsible two-way player that can play all positions," Landmesser said. "We will look for him to build off of last year's success and to continue to be a threat every time he is on the ice."

Harrington had nothing but great things to say about the organization that signed him midway through last season.

"This is a great organization and I'm excited to get back to work and see all the fans," Harrington said. "The speed of the game was something I had to adjust to last season, but once I was able to do that, I was more patient with the puck and able to capitalize on my scoring opportunities. I'm looking forward to building off of that and having another successful run."

The North Port, Fla. native enters his third professional season and second in the SPHL. Harrington appeared in 57 games for Cape Cod of the Federal Hockey League, registering 51 points (18G, 33A) before joining the RiverKings.

Hill, 25, comes to the RiverKings after a two-year collegiate career at the University of Wisconsin Superior. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound defenseman tallied seven points (1G, 6A) in 50 games.

"Ryan is a big mobile stay at home defenseman that moves well," said Landmesser. "We will look for him add size and grit to our back end as he makes the jump to the pro game."

Hill agreed with Landmesser's assessment of his playing style.

"I like to play a consistent defensive game and keep the game simple," Hill said. "I've heard great things about the RiverKings organization and with the SPHL's quality of hockey improving every year, I really liked what I saw in Southaven."

The RiverKings open their 2013-14 quest for the President's Cup at home on October 26 against the Louisiana IceGators. Group tickets start at $8 and are available by contacting the RiverKings front office at 662-342-1755.
