DEFENSIVE FIREPOWER
Rivermen defensemen Brandon Greenside and Dave Pszenyczny enter play tonight among the league's best offensive threats from the blue line, with Greenside's 30 assists leading all SPHL blueliners and his +27 rating leading all skaters, while Pszenyczny's 11 goals lead all SPHL defensemen for the season. Greenside remains the only Rivermen player to skate in every game this season, and Pszenyczny has tallied 26 points in just 34 games and is a +13 since joining the Rivermen in late December.
THE WIL TO WIN
Last night's 2-1 overtime loss included an assist by veteran Peoria winger Chris Wilson, giving him his first point in his second game since returning from injured reserve. The assist is Wilson's first since February 6 at Fayetteville. For the season, Wilson has played 41 games and has recorded 20 goals and 20 assists, and before going on injured reserve after Peoria'sFebruary 27 game against Knoxville, Wilson had notched 14 points over a nine-game span, including a two-goal, two assist performance February 4 at Macon.
THE WHOLE SHOOTING MATCH
The Rivermen enter play tonight second in the SPHL at 33.76 shots on goal per game, and out-shooting opponents by an 1823-1645 margin for the season. Peoria is out-shooting their opposition 635-509 in the first period of games this season, and the Rivermen enter play tonight out-scoring their foes 68-31 in the first 20 minutes of games this season, each representing the widest such margin for any SPHL team in any period this season. When out-shooting opponents this season, the Rivermen are 24-6-2, and when leading after one period, Peoria is 25-5-1.
WHAT'S AHEAD
After tonight's game the Rivermen and Cottonmouths will conclude their respective regular seasons tomorrow night at Carver Arena before the Rivermen begin the first round of the SPHL President's Cup playoffs next season. The Rivermen will play Game 1 of the first round at Macon next Wednesday, then game 2 will be played next Friday at Peoria's Owens Center. Game 3, if needed, will be played at Owens Center next Saturday.
