Rivermen Find New Radio Home in the Country

Peoria Rivermen News Release

The Peoria Rivermen have announced that they have signed a broadcast agreement with CD Country 107.9 (WCDD-FM). The two-year agreement will cover the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons.

All 76 regular season contests along with every post-season game will air on CD Country with priority access that will ensure that all games are heard live. The games will continue be streamed over the Internet to a world-wide audience through the station's web site (www.cd1079.net).

"It's a powerful signal, the biggest signal reach we've had in the history of the Rivermen franchise," Rivermen chief operating officer Jason Penning said. "We're trying to grow our fan base, and this signal gets us into more cars and households. We're a good fit there."

CD Country 107.9 is carried on a 25,000-watt transmitter -- one of the five biggest signals in the central Illinois radio field. Its 267-foot tower is located on high ground in Canton, and the signal blankets Peoria and spreads outward to reach beyond Macomb, Galesburg, Beardstown, Petersburg, Eureka and Lincoln. The growing station -- which went to a country music format last year -- is part of Prairie Radio Communications, an 11-station group that touches Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin and Missouri.

"It's a win-win for both sides. They get a great signal size and we get the stature of hosting a class-AAA professional team," said CD Country general manager B.J. Stone. "You can argue that the combination makes the Rivermen the biggest radio presence by a pro team in downstate Illinois."

The Rivermen and CD Country are planning additional team programming to add to their presence in the radio market.
