Peoria Rivermen News Release

Peoria, Il - The Peoria Rivermen capped a six-point week with a 3-2 shootout win over the Quad City Flames on Saturday at Carver Arena. They have won three consecutive games and are now 10-2-1 at home this season.

The three-game winning streak is the third of its kind for the Rivermen this year and first since defeating Rockford, Grand Rapids and Quad City between Nov. 2-8.

Ben Bishop was strong in goal for the second straight night and made 29 saves through regulation. He stopped three of four in the shootout. Nikolay Lemtyugov and Ivan Vishnevskiy were involved in both of the Rivermen goals during regulation while Lemtyugov, Josh Soares and Nicholas Drazenovic all scored in the shootout.

Kyle Greentree scored both goals for the Flames including the game tying goal with only 1.8 seconds to play in the third period to send the game into overtime. He was also the only player to score against Bishop in the shootout.

Peoria's power-play struck at 7:40 of the first period to take the 1-0 lead. Vishnevskiy slapped home his third goal of the season with Soares providing a screen in front of Matt Keetley. Justin Fletcher and Lemtyugov assisted on the play.

The Rivermen have scored on nine of their last 20 power plays and improved to 22.3 percent at home.

Quad City tied the game at 4:31 of the second period on Greentree's 11th goal of the season. He snapped one past Bishop's glove hand from inside the right circle after accepting a pass from Jamie Lundmark.

The tie game lasted a mere 26 seconds as Soares responded to put the Rivermen back on top. Vishnevskiy pushed the puck out of the Rivermen zone and Lemtyugov forced it through to Soares just outside the Flames zone. As Soares walked in with an option to pass to Lemtyugov he waited for Keetley to commit and then ripped it past his glove. It was Soares fourth-straight game with a goal and has five in nine games this season with the Rivermen.

The 2-1 score stood until the waning seconds of regulation when Greentree fought home a blocked shot for his second of the game. With the Flames net empty, Lundmark's shot from the right circle hit the scrambling players in front and bounced into the low slot and onto the stick of Greentree.

Peoria controlled overtime registering the only five shots of the five minute session but were unable to end it early. The Rivermen won 3-1 in a four-round shootout. Peoria has won its only two shootouts this season and they both come in the last five games.

The Rivermen head out on the road to face the Lake Erie Monsters on Wednesday, in the first game of a four-game road trip. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. CST and the radio broadcast can be heard on Hippie 101.1 FM or online through www.rivermen.net.

Ware in attendance to sign autographs. It is also Illinois Pork Producers night as the first 2,500 fans will receive an eco-friendly tote bag.
