December 6, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Abbotsford Heat News Release
Kyle Greentree netted his team-leading 12th goal of the year with just 1.8 seconds left in the third period to earn the Flames a regulation point in a 3-2 shootout loss to Peoria on Saturday. Greentree's last second goal was his second of the night and continued a trend of late Flames comebacks. The late goal marked the fourth time in the last six games that the Flames have scored late to earn a regulation point.
Ivan Vishnevskiy scored the first period's only goal when he sent a point shot into the Flames net during a Peoria power play. The tally put Peoria in front after 20 minutes despite the fact that Quad City outshot them 9-5 in the first frame.
In the second period, the squads exchanged a pair of goals that were separated by just 26 seconds. Kyle Greentree scored his team-leading 11th goal of the season following a cross-ice feed from Jamie Lundmark at 4:31 of the middle frame. The Rivermen responded on the ensuing shift when Josh Soares cruised down right wing before darting to the center of the ice to score his fifth goal in nine games with Peoria. The teams skated off following the second period with Peoria holding a 2-1 advantage.
A hard fought third period culminated in a game-tying goal by Kyle Greentree with just 1.8 seconds left in regulation. Greentree potted the game-tying tally on a goal-mouth scramble with the sixth attacker on the ice.
The Flames survived the overtime period despite being outshot 5-0 in the extra frame. In the shootout, Josh Soares scored in the first round to give Peoria a 1-0 shootout edge. Greentree tied the game with a second-round shootout tally. The Rivermen responded by scoring in the third and fourth shootout rounds as Nikolay Lemtyugov and Nicholas Drazenovic beat Flames netminder Matt Keetley. Meanwhile, Peoria's Ben Bishop held the fort with saves against the final two shooters he faced to ensure the Rivermen victory.
The Flames will be at Bleacher Bums in Davenport for the Budweiser Flames Forum on Monday night at 6:00 p.m. Scott Allen, Anders Eriksson, Kyle Greentree and Brad Cole will join host Aaron Roof. Fans in attendance will have the opportunity to win prizes from the Flames and Budweiser. The show can also be heard on 93.9 FM WYEC.
The Flames host Milwaukee on Wednesday night before beginning a five-game road trip. Game time is 7:05 p.m. Tickets are available now at the i wireless Center Box Office, via phone at (563) 326-1111 or on-line at ticketmaster.com.
