Syracuse's Kevin Harvey gave the Crunch a 1-0 lead late in the first period. Andrey Plekhanov earned the assist on the even-strength goal at 17:28 in the opening frame. Syracuse out-shot the Aeros 16-9 in the period with Barry Brust making some dramatic saves with the Crunch controlling the puck.
Mike York netted a power-play goal at 9:43 in the second period to give the Crunch a 2-0 lead. Houston came back strong netting three of their own to round out the period, taking a 3-2 lead into the second intermission. Corey Locke netted his first goal of the game at 10:17, Tomas Mojzis recorded his first goal as an Aero at 12:03 and Maxim Noreau tallied a power-play marker at 15:34 for Houston's goals. Despite out-scoring the Crunch 3-1 in the period, Syracuse out-shot Houston 16-8.
Houston added to the lead when Locke netted his second of the night at 6:56 in the final period. Syracuse pulled its goalie with over a minute remaining and down by two goals and recorded an extra-attacker goal by Nikita Filatov with only 19 seconds left to play. The goal was too-little, too-late as Houston fought off the last ditch effort to tie the game for a 4-3 victory, splitting the season-series 1-1.
