Springfield Falcons News Release

Springfield, MA - The Springfield Falcons extended their winning streak to two games beating the Manchester Monarchs 3-2 in front of 3,715 at the MassMutual Center on Saturday night. The Falcons are now 11-9-2-1 on the season and sit in a third place tie with the Lowell Devils in the Atlantic Division standings as they head into Providence on Sunday.

The Falcons opened the scoring in the first period when Ryan Potulny's wrist shot beat Manchester goaltender Jonathan Bernier at 18:31 giving the Falcons a one-goal advantage through 20 minutes of play.

Springfield quickly built a 2-0 advantage in the second period when Potulny added his second marker of the game just 21-seconds into the middle stanza. Viacheslav Trukhno gave the Falcons a 3-0 advantage at 3:21 of the second period when he tallied on the power play and gave Springfield a commanding three-goal cushion.

The Monarchs would answer back before the second frame was over when Marty Murray slid a backhand shot past Devan Dubnyk at 6:48 cutting Manchester's deficit to 3-1 and giving the Monarchs momentum heading into the final 20 minutes of play.

In the third period, Manchester cut their deficit to 3-2 when Vladimir Dravecky converted at 6:44 pulling Manchester to within a single goal heading into the final minutes of regulation. With Trukhno in the penalty box and the goaltender pulled, the Monarchs ended up on a two-man advantage in the closing seconds, but the Falcons held on for their second win in as many nights on home ice.
