Sims Blanks IceRays in Corpus Christi, 1-0
RiverKings goaltender Tyler Sims fashioned the team's first shutout of the season on Saturday, November 30th, as Mississippi defeated the Corpus Christi IceRays 1-0 in Texas. Sims stopped 34 shots on goal in posting his first victory of the season (1-2-0). Dallas Costanzo scored Mississippi's only goal it needed in the game, a shot from the upper slot that was assisted by Andrew Lackner and Matt Pierce at 14 minutes of the second period. Sims is now one of five CHL goaltenders to have at least one shutout to their credit this season. The last time a Mississippi goaltender blanked an opponent came on March 20th, when Ian Keserich stopped the Oklahoma City Blazers by a 1-0 score at the Ford Center with a 33-save performance. Mississippi ended the Tulsa-Texas portion of its season-long eight-game road trip with a 4-2-0 record.
Chaumont Leads the RiverKings' Goal-Scoring Efforts
In 19 games this season, RiverKings' forward Bobby Chaumont has led the team in goal scoring with 12 red-lighters, despite being shut off the goal scoring ledger for the past three games. Chaumont has a five-game goal scoring streak, where he netted seven goals from November 15th at home against Oklahoma City, to November 25th in Laredo. That streak is tied for the third-longest point streak in the season so far. Three times Bobby has scored more than one goal in a game, on November 8th at Wichita, November 15th vs. Oklahoma City, and November 25th at Laredo. His best success this season has come against Tulsa and Wichita, where he's scored two goals each against both teams. Ten of his 12 goals have come in victories. Chaumont's six power play goals places him in a tie for fourth in the league statistics entering the week and his three game-winning goals puts him in a tie for second among CHL skaters. Chaumont has been the first star of the game five times and leads the league three-star point standings with five.
Dumont Leads RiverKings Assists and Points List
Veteran forward Louis Dumont leads the RiverKings in assists and points heading into the team's trek to South Dakota. Dumont has 13 assists and 21 points through the current leg of the RiverKings road trip. Louis has posted a three-point night once this season (November 8th at Wichita) and earned two assists on three different occasions, November 7th vs. Rocky Mountain, November 8th at Wichita, and November 26th at Rio Grande Valley. Dumont has not been shut off the score sheet for more than one game this year and has scored at least one point in 15 of the team's 19 games this season. Louis has scored four points against Wichita this season (2 goals, 2 assists) and has scored 15 of his 21 points in RiverKings' victories. Dumont also leads the Central Hockey League in shorthanded goals with four. Louis is fifth in the CHL three-star standings with 18 points (first star once, second star four times, third star once).
Alcombrack Doing It at the D-Line
Mississippi defenseman Jeff Alcombrack is providing offense from the blue line for the RiverKings this season, as he is among the point leaders in the Central Hockey League for a defenseman. Alcombrack is tied for eighth in blue line point production with 14 points on four goals and ten assists. Jeff earned four of his 14 points in one game, a one-goal, three-assist effort at Tulsa when the current road trip began on November 21st at the BOK Center. He's also produced two-point efforts on two occasions, November 15th against Oklahoma City, and again on November 26th at Rio Grande Valley. Alcombrack is tied for third in power play assists by a defenseman with eight in 19 games.
Simoes Paces the Penalty Minute Parade
David Simoes has been among the CHL leaders for penalty minutes this season with 86, currently third to Arizona's Karl Sellan in the stat category. Simoes has been tagged for penalty minutes in 13 of the RiverKings 19 games this season, but David stayed away from the sin bin for half of the just-completed Tulsa-Texas portion of the road trip, with penalty time in just three of the team's six games. Before that time he had a stretch from October 25th to November 14th, where he had 60 penalty minutes in the seven games. 29 of his 86 penalty minutes have come in games against Bossier-Shreveport, and he's an "equal-opportunity" sin bin participant, having split his time in home and away games with 43 PIMS each at home and on the road. Simoes has been whistled for 14 major penalties this season, which is second in the CHL.
