Tulsa's Jeff Christian and Odessa's Juha Toivonen Earn Weekly Awards

The Central Hockey League announced today that the recipients for the Oakley CHL Player and Goaltender of the Week for the period ending November 30th, 2008 are forward Jeff Christian of the Tulsa Oilers and goaltender Juha Toivonen of the Odessa Jackalopes.
Christian wins the weekly award after totaling eight points in three games with the Oilers this past week. The 2006-07 CHL Most Valuable Player had multiple points in each of Tulsa's games scoring five goals (including the Oilers first hat trick of the season) and three assists. The Burlington, Ontario native has been on fire lately notching points in each of the last six games for the Oilers totaling seven goals and eight assists over that stretch. Christian's 25 points (10-15=25) on the season has him ranked just inside the league's top 10.
Toivonen becomes the first repeat winner of the award this season after capturing the weekly goaltending award on October 20th after winning the Jackalopes first two games of the season. This past week, the Hattula, Finland native started all three games for the Jacks winning each of them. On Wednesday (11/26/08), the rookie earned his first professional shutout in Corpus Christi. Toivonen has Odessa in first place in the Southwest Division and on the season is second in the CHL with nine wins and ninth with a 2.69 goals against average.
In recognition of their achievement, both Christian and Toivonen will receive a special gift from Oakley.
