Odessa Jackalopes News Release
(Odessa, TX) - The Odessa Jackalopes finally solved the riddle of their home ice when they topped the New Mexico Scorpions, 6-2, on Friday. The Jacks currently have the CHL's best road record at 10-1-0, but this week will begin a seven game stretch of home games starting with Arizona on Tuesday night.
Last week's record: 3-0-0
This week's games: Tuesday vs. ARZ, Friday vs. TUL, Saturday vs. CRP
Wednesday @ Corpus Christi, 4-0 Win
Juha Toivonen stopped 19 shots to preserve the first shutout of his professional career, and the Jacks first shutout of the season. Sebastien Thinel scored two goals while Jean Bourbeau and Mike Lesperance each added a shorthanded tally for Odessa.
Friday vs. New Mexico, 6-2 Win
The Jackalopes scored five goals in the first two periods and built a 6-0 lead in the third. For the second straight game, a Jacks player scored a pair of goals - this time it was Kory Karlander. For the third time this season the Jackalopes scored four power play goals in a game to tie their season high. Juha Toivonen turned aside 28 of 30 shots.
Saturday @ Tulsa, 6-4 Win
Brian Swiniarski led a third period comeback with the first hat trick of his pro career. It was the third consecutive multi-goal game for an Odessa skater. The Jacks trailed 4-2 with 17:00 remaining in the third period. Brian Swiniarski (two goals), Jeff Pierce, and Kory Karlander combined to score four unanswered goals for the Jacks to win, 6-4.
Tuesday vs. Arizona, 7:05 PM
The road team has won each game, splitting the season series 2-2. Arizona currently trails the Jackalopes by seven points for first place in the Southwest Division.
Friday vs. Tulsa, 7:05 PM
It's second of three meetings in three weeks between the Jacks and Oilers. Odessa won the first game last Saturday with a third period comeback sparked by Brian Swiniarski's hat trick. Odessa and Tulsa meet four times this season - last year the teams split the two games they played.
Saturday vs. Corpus Christi, 7:05 PM
It's the second of nine meetings this season between the Rays and Jacks. Odessa shutout the IceRays on their home ice last week. Justin Quenneville leads the IceRays with 21 points this season.
The Odessa Jackalopes are the Central Hockey League affiliate for the NHL's New York Islanders and the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The team is currently in its 12th season. Season tickets, mini-plans, and single game tickets are available by calling (432) 552-PUCK or visiting jackalopes.org.
