RiverKings Support Pack the Humvee Event This Sunday

Mississippi RiverKings News Release

(Southaven, MS) -- The Mississippi RiverKings are supporting an effort to support our troops this Sunday, September 28th, at the Southaven Wal-Mart Supercenter. The location is on Goodman Road, just east of I-55 Exit 289 in Southaven.

The event is called, "Pack the Humvees with Care." Military vehicles will convoy into the parking lot and will be parked there from 12 Noon to 6 PM that day, accepting donations of items that local National Guard members can take with them when they are deployed overseas early next year.

The RiverKings are supporting the effort by encouraging their fans to stop by Sunday afternoon and donate to the cause. Team mascot RiverThing will also be on hand during the afternoon to lend his support. Wal-Mart shoppers will be encouraged to include one of the items on their shopping list.

Hernando National Guard support group leader Liz Adams says the effort grew from a community service project that fourth grade students at Southaven Intermediate School are undertaking. "They just want to fill the humvees full of care package items," Adams says.

Some of the items that are needed for the troops include hand sanitizers, powdered drinks, such as Gatorade or Powerade, beef jerky, deodorant, soap, razors, toilet paper, toothpaste, dental floss, chapstick, and more.

The RiverKings hope our fans will get behind the effort to provide for our troops representing our nation and the Mid-South overseas by giving generously to this effort. If you have any specific questions about the "Pack the Humvees with Care" event this Sunday, you may contact Liz Adams at 901-262-1208.
