RiverKings set to host Blazers in pivotal game five
April 5, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release
SOUTHAVEN. MS --- The best-of-seven first round CHL playoff series between the Memphis RiverKings and Oklahoma City Blazers has been reduced to a best two out of three. Through four games, the two clubs have each won two with game five set for tomorrow (Friday) night at the DeSoto Civic Center at 7:05. The most recent contest, game four in Oklahoma City on Tuesday, resulted in a 4-2 Blazers win that evened the series.
This series, which had already featured a physical edge in the first three games, saw the intensity go up a notch or two with a combined 176 penalty minutes in Tuesday's game four at the Ford Center. One hundred-20 of those minutes occurred in the final 1:04 of the game. High PIM games are nothing new in this rivalry. The teams had a 179 PIM game in the regular season on January 27 in front a crowd of over 8,000 at the DCC.
The series is even in other ways besides the 2-2 status. Each team has two players with five points in the series: Phil Aucoin and Travis Banga for the RiverKings; Garrett Prosofsky and Ryan Watson for the Blazers. One goal separates the teams in the series: Oklahoma City has scored 13 to the RiverKings' 12. Each team has won once on the other team's ice. Each team has also scored seven goals in the second period.
In other stat categories, the RiverKings have the advantage through four games. Their power play is seven for 35 (20%) while the Blazers are five for 29 (17.2%). The RiverKings are averaging 31.25 shots per game with the Blazers coming in at 27.75.
After Friday, game six is Saturday night at the Ford Center at 7:35. Game seven, if necessary, will be back at the DCC Tuesday night at 7:05.
