Cescon Joins Scorpions For Playoff Run
April 5, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
New Mexico Scorpions News Release
[ RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-The New Mexico Scorpions are tied with Amarillo, 1-1 in the opening round of the playoffs. Head Coach Ray Edwards has added Craig Cescon to the roster with an amateur contract.
Cescon will join the team in Amarillo for this week's playoff games. The Central Hockey League allows each team to carry up to two amateur players during the playoffs, but only 18 players can dress for games.
With the signing of Cescon, the Scorpions will add some depth to the back end of their roster. The 6'2", 200-pounder played this season with the Peterborough Petes in the Ontario Hockey League.
In 68 games, Cescon picked up 9 assists and 198 penalty minutes. In five seasons of junior hockey, the Mississauga, Ont. native has appeared in 286 games, scoring 35 points (5G, 30A) and amassed 802 penalty minutes.
"Craig will come in and add size and grit to the back end," said Edwards. "It will be nice to have an extra body around during the playoffs and could give us a different look depending on future match up."
The series shifts to the Amarillo Civic Center this week with game three on Wednesday. Thursday the teams will match up for game four and Saturday Amarillo hosts game five. All three games begin at 6:05 p.m. Mountain Time.
The Scorpions return home for a possible Game 6 on Monday, April 9. If needed, Game 7 will be on Tuesday, April 10. Call the Scorpions office at (505) 881-PUCK [7825] to reserve your tickets to see the Southwest Division champions in the playoffs. The Scorpions are back in the playoffs and looking for their first championship.
