Mississippi RiverKings News Release

Southaven, MS --- The RiverKings are proud to once again host area students for the 5th Annual Face Off Field Trip, but we need YOUR help. The Face Off Field Trip provides students not only the chance to attend a professional hockey game, an event many students might never have the chance to attend, but it is also a unique educational opportunity.

January 22, 2008, third through sixth grade students from DeSoto County, Shelby County and Memphis City Schools will be in attendance for the 10 a.m. faceoff between the Mississippi RiverKings and the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs.

Workbooks will be provided to the students and teachers in attendance covering math, geography, reading, writing, etc. Furthermore, in-crowd activities during game breaks will be interactive learning sessions, referencing the workbook.

"We are proud of what this event has grown to," said Michael Rice RiverKings Community Development staff member.

Volunteers are as essential to this event. "Without the help of the volunteers this event would be chaotic," said Rice. "With their help it is one of the top educational and entertaining events ever."

Volunteers for the Face Off Field Trip will miss little if any of the hockey action. Volunteers are still needed!

Interested individuals should be available to stop into the DeSoto Civic Center Monday January 21 sometime between 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. for pizza and instructions.

Volunteers must be available to help the day of the event, Tuesday January 22, from 7:30 a.m. until approximately 1:30 p.m.

To sign up to volunteer please contact Cristin Franklin at 662.342.1755.
