Mississippi RiverKings News Release
SOUTHAVEN, MS --- The Mississippi RiverKings of the Central Hockey League (CHL) were ranked tenth in the latest Yellowbook/CHL Coaches Poll, released today by the CHL League Office.
The poll, which is released twice each month during the CHL regular season, ranks the top ten teams in the league, based on voting by the league coaches. Points are awarded on a 10-9-8-7-6, etc. sliding scale.
The RiverKings' ranking is down two spots from the last poll, which was taken around the first of December and had Mississippi ranked eighth. The RiverKings (season record 11-11-2) received 22 points in the balloting.
The Southern Conference-leading Odessa Jackalopes remain the top ranked team in the poll. The Jackalopes (18-4-3) received eight first-place votes and 134 points in the balloting.
Colorado, the Northern Conference leader with a 17-4-1 mark on the year, were ranked second in the latest poll. Colorado received four first-place ballots and had 122 points in the voting.
The Allen Americans, second in the Southern Conference standings with a record of 17-5-1, were right behind the Eagles in third place with 120 points. Allen received the three remaining first-place votes.
Rapid City and Texas round out the top five in the voting. The remaining five teams in the top ten, in order, are Laredo, Bossier-Shreveport, Rio Grande Valley, Tulsa, and the RiverKings.
Missouri, Corpus Christi, and Arizona also received votes in the poll, but did not make the top ten. None of the ten teams ranked in the last poll dropped out of the rankings.
The complete results of the poll may be found on the Central Hockey League web site.
Next action for the RiverKings will come tomorrow night, December 18th in Southaven, when they host the fourth-ranked Rapid City Rush at 7:05 PM. Rapid City comes into the game on a ten-game winning streak, following a 2-1 victory at Missouri on Tuesday night.
