December 17, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Arizona Sundogs News Release
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - The Arizona Sundogs had a four-game point streak snapped and were held scoreless with the man advantage for the first time in six games Wednesday night in a 4-1 loss to the Southern Conference-leading Odessa Jackalopes.
Recording power-play goals in five straight games coming into the contest, Arizona was held scoreless on nine man-advantage opportunities in the loss. Odessa finished 1-for-6 with the man advantage.
Trailing less than a minute into the contest Wednesday, the visiting Jackalopes responded with a trio of goals in a seven-minute span in the second period en route to their 18th win of the season.
Showcasing its top-rated power-play, Odessa netted the first of its three second-period markers while on a two-man advantage, pulling even at one 2:16 into the middle frame.
Dominic Leveille tallied his league-leading 30th assist of the year on the play, sending a cross-ice feed to Philippe Plante at the far post.
Jeff Pierce gave his club a 2-1 lead 65 seconds later with a wrist shot through traffic past Kyle McNulty as both teams scrambled for a loose puck in the low slot.
At 9:02, Mike Ramsay capped off the trio of goals on a 3-on-2 odd-man rush after a turnover at the Sundogs blue line. Leveille was credited with his second helper of the game along with and Paul Kelly.
The Sundogs skated to a 1-0 first-period lead on an early tally by Torren Delforte just 51 seconds into the contest.
Stationed outside the goal crease with his back to the net, Delforte collected his team-leading 10th goal of the year, fooling the Jackalopes' Joel Martin with a blind backhand effort that beat the netminder five-hole less than a minute into the game.
The Sundogs carried play in the first, outshooting Odessa 7-1 midway through the period before finishing with a 14-3 advantage after 20 minutes of action.
Kelly added an empty net marker with eight seconds left in regulation.
McNulty suffered the loss with 20 saves on 23 shots while Martin improved to 10-1-2 on the year with 28 saves, the lone blemish coming less than a minute into the game.
Next up for Arizona (8-13-3) is a two-game set against the Texas Brahmas this Friday and Saturday at 7:05pm at Tim's Toyota Center.
