Second Period Surge Fuels Odessa's 4-1 Win

(Prescott Valley, AZ) - Three unanswered, second period goals for the Odessa Jackalopes were the difference in their 4-1 win over the Arizona Sundogs on Wednesday night at Tim's Toyota Center. The win extended Odessa's first place lead in the Southern Conference to four points over the Allen Americans with an 18-4-3 record. Odessa and Allen play their next three games against each other.

Torren Delforte opened up the game's scoring just 51 seconds into the first period with a backhand shot in front of the net to give Arizona the 1-0 lead. Kyle Hood had the assist. It was the only goal of the period as the Jackalopes were outshot 13-3 entering the first intermission.

The Jackalopes answered in the second period with a pair of goals in the first four minutes. Phil Plante tipped home a power play goal at 2:16 with a 5-on-3 advantage. Jeff Pierce then made it a 2-1 Odessa lead shooting a loose puck between the circles past Kyle McNulty at 3:21. Mike Ramsay gave Odessa a 3-1 lead on a two-on-one with Dominic Leveille at 9:02. The Jackalopes led entering the break.

In the third period Paul Kelly added an empty net goal for Odessa with six seconds remaining to make the score 4-1.

Joel Martin earned his 10th win of the season in goal for the Jackalopes.

The Jacks travel to Allen to begin a home-and-home series with the Americans, who currently are in second place behind Odessa in the Southern Conference, on Friday at 7:30 PM. The action can be heard on 102.1 Jack FM.
