March 25, 2006 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN --- In a game that sort of epitomizes their season, the Memphis RiverKings outshot the Tulsa Oilers 64-21, but fell 5-4 to end their 14th CHL season Saturday night at the DeSoto Civic Center. The RiverKings surpassed their previous season-high of 51 shots by midway through the third period and eclipsed the team's previous single period season high in the first, then again in the third. Memphis closes out the season 22-37-5 and in third place in the Northeast Division.

After falling behind 3-0 early in the second, the RiverKings got goals from Ryan Watson and Travis Bangs to cut the lead to 3-2. The teams then exchanged goals in the final minute of the period. Tulsa's Arturs Kupaks, who finished with two goals after entering the game with none, tallied at 19:11 followed 30 seconds later by the RiverKings' Don Parsons scoring off a face-off draw won by Ryan Campbell.

With the score 4-3 to enter the third, Kupaks struck again to give his team a two goal advantage at 7:34. Watson's second of the night came on the power play at 17:35 to keep the RiverKings' come-back hopes alive, but the game would end 5-4.

Watson's two goals gave him a career high 25 on the season while Travis Banga's goal and two assists gave him a second-highest-on-the-team 73 points and a team-high 34 goals.

Derek Landmesser picked up an assist and finishes the season leading the team in assists with 64 and points with 81. His assist total is the highest by a RiverKing since Derek Grant had 78 in 98-99 and the second most all-time. Also, his 81 points are the most by a CHL defenseman since Bernie John of the Indianapolis Ice had 85 in the 2000-01 season.

The 64 shots are a single-game high for a team this season in the CHL and the 26 shots are a RiverKings team-high for the 2005-06 season.

Tulsa goalie Marco Emond made a league-high 60 saves while the RiverKings' Guy St. Vincent played the first two periods followed by Michael Dilorenzo. St. Vincent took the loss and finished the season 12-21-2. Memphis finished the eight-game season series with the Oilers 2-6-0.
