Mississippi RiverKings News Release
Southaven -- The RiverKings hosted the Tulsa Oilers for the RiverKings Pink At The Rink event. This special game featured the RiverKings in pink jerseys, playing on pink ice and raising funds for Susan G Komen for the Cure.
"We are very pleased with how great the Pink At The Rink event turned out," Dave Mattice, Director of Business Operations for the RiverKings said.
The RiverKings used this special game night to highlight Susan G Komen for the Cure, a worldwide organization whose mission is to eliminate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease by advancing research, education, screening and treatment. Susan G. Komen for the Cure has led the nation's charge in the fight against breast cancer for more than 20 years.
The RiverKings' pink game jerseys, sponsored by First Tennessee, were auctioned off following the game. The jersey auction raised nearly $5,000 benefitting the MidSouth Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, as well as $5,000 benefitting Hernando Youth Sports.
The RiverKings furthered their giving by donating $2 from walkup and group ticket sales to Susan G Komen. The fans who crowed the DeSoto Civic Center helped the RiverKings to donate nearly $4,000 to the MidSouth Affiliate of Susan G Komen for the Cure.
"We are so pleased that First Tennessee, DeSoto Athletic Club, Thompson Dunavant PLC and The Grove Coffee House teamed up with us to support this great cause," Mattice, said.
Sponsorships for the night helped bring the grand total of money donated to Susan G Komen for the Cure to over $9,000.
""We are thrilled with the Pink at the Rink RiverKings event," Peg Ross, Administrative Director of the local affiliate said. "It was a great evening from start to finish with pink ice, pink and black jerseys and a spectacular jersey auction."
"We so appreciate the RiverKings and the Maddox Foundation and their partnership with us in the fight against breast cancer," Ross continued. "And their commitment to providing breast health services for underserved women in the MidSouth."
