Youngstown SteelHounds News Release

Start the Trip 1-1-0

The Hounds are in the midst of a three game road trip in which they have started 1-1-0. Friday night started promising in Loveland against the defending champion Colorado Eagles as they took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. The champs rallied scoring three unanswered en route to a 7-3 win at the Budweiser Events Center where the Hounds have never won a game. Sunday night was a nail biter when the Hounds visited the Amarillo Gorillas. The Hounds had a 2-1 lead after two periods but the third was a game of "Can you top this?" with teams exchanging goals including a shorthanded goal by Petr Pohl with nine minutes left to give Youngstown a 4-3 lead. Chris Lipsett scored with 46 seconds left to complete a hat trick and tie the game at four to force overtime and an eventual shootout. Kevin Beech stopped four of five Gorilla shots and Chris Richards and Jason Baird were able to score on Dan Bauer to give the Hounds a 2-1 win in the shootout for a 5-4 victory.

What's On Tap: Four Games, Six Nights, 1,241 Miles

The Hounds will finish this three game road trip on Tuesday night when they visit Northeast Division rivals, the Texas Brahmas at 8:05. The Brahmas (29-20-1, 59 points) are only three points back of Youngstown fourth fourth and one point back of the Mississippi RiverKings (29-19-2, 60 points) for the fifth and final Northern Conference playoff spot. The Hounds are 5-3-0 against the Brahmas this season and this game will mark the final divisional game for the Hounds this season. It will be a quick turnaround for the SteelHounds as they will drive 1,241 miles back to Northeast Ohio to play a three game series with the Wichita Thunder (16-33-1, 33 points) starting on Friday. All SteelHounds games are available on ESPN Radio 1240 and SteelHounds.com.

Mr. Incredible

One Hound that has had a great road trip thus far is rookie forward Kevin Jarman. Jarman, 22, had two goals and an assist on Friday night in Colorado and added a goal on Sunday night in Amarillo. He has recorded at least one point in 10 of his last 11 games and has 18 goals and 14 assists on the season. The Aurora, Ontario native was a fourth round selection (# 103 overall) by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

Home and Away

The definitive "Road Warriors" of minor league professional hockey have lived up to that moniker this season. The Youngstown SteelHounds are 17-10-1 on the road this season and their 35 points are second in the league behind the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs. This is in stark contrast to their play inside the friendly confines of the Chevrolet Centre where the Hounds' 12-8-3 record is 12th best in the Central Hockey League. The Hounds will play nine of their last 13 games at home to finish the regular season.

Promotion Packed Weekend

This weekend will be a promotion packed weekend at the Chevrolet Centre as the Hounds host the Wichita Thunder on February 29th-March 2nd.
