
RiverKings Open Pre-Season with Win

(Southaven, MS) -- The Mississippi RiverKings opened the 2008 pre-season with a 3-1 victory over the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs on Friday night, October 10th, at the DeSoto Civic Center.
Matt Pierce scored the game-winning goal for the RiverKings at the 2:50 mark of the third period, unassisted, a goal that gave Mississippi a 2-0 lead.
Stephen Schofield opened the scoring for the RiverKings with a power-play goal at 3:51 on the second period, assisted by Taylor Hustead and Jeff Alcombrack.
Bossier-Shreveport cut the margin to 2-1 when J.R. Bria scored at 8:10 of the third, but the RiverKings answered nearly five minutes later at 13:06 with a Mike Tuomi power play goal that made the final score 3-1.
Ross Cherry was the winning goaltender with 20 saves on 21 shots against. Kurikka was the losing goalie with two goals allowed on 12 shots on goal.
The RiverKings meet the Mudbugs one more time in pre-season action Saturday, October 11th at the DeSoto Civic Center, beginning at 7:05 PM. The game culiminates a day-long "Fan Fest," which includes public skating, a pre-game tailgate party and the game in the evening.
