Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
HIDALGO, TEXAS --- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the Central Hockey League (CHL) today made several transactions relating to the team's preseason roster. Head Coach Chris Brooks released forwards James Edgar, Shawn Houde and goalie Bill Zaniboni. The team also signed three-time CHL All Star goalie Mike Gorman.
Gorman enters his eighth full pro season. The three-time CHL All-Star (2002, 2003 and 2006) has spent the majority of his career with the Odessa Jackalopes. He departs the franchise as the leader in most goaltending categories; wins (143), shutouts (15), games played (278), saves (8,633) and minutes (16,227).
"Mike is an experienced goaltender who has proven he can be one of the best in the league," Killer Bees Head Coach Chris Brooks explained. "His resume is impressive and I look forward to seeing him on the ice with us next week."
The 28-year-old Nepean, Ontario, native was named the Southern Conference starting goaltender at the 2006 CHL All-Star Game, which was held at Dodge Arena. He was honored with the 2001-02 CHL Most Outstanding Goaltender Award and was a finalist for the award in 2005-06. He was named the Jackalopes Co-MVP (with Scott Hillman) in 2002-03 and took home the award singularly in 2006-07.
The Bees open their sixth season at Dodge Arena on October 18 vs. the Rocky Mountain Rage. The first 1000 kids through the doors will receive a Killer Bees jersey courtesy San Juan Pharmacy and KRGV NEWSCHANNEL 5.
Single game tickets for the 2008-09 season, including the team's preseason game vs. Laredo (October 10), are on sale now at all Ticketmaster outlets including the Dodge Arena Box Office. Season tickets are available now by calling 956-843-PUCK (7825).
