
Scorpions Drop Preseason Match In Amarillo

[AMARILLO, Tex.]-The Scorpions dropped an exhibition game in Amarillo 4-3 on Friday night. The same two teams will meet on Saturday in Santa Fe at the Chavez Community Center starting at 7 p.m.
The first period saw the teams combine for 10 power plays and four goals. Amarillo scored the night's first goal at the 1:35 mark when Mike George pushed a rebound to the back of the net, with his team on a two-man advantage. The Gorillas lead grew to two goals as Jason Weitzel took a shot that was initially saved, but the rebound bounced off Weitzel and into the net.
The Scorpions scored their first goal of the pre-season when Matt Cosmos pushed a wraparound goal into the net. On the power play, defenseman Russell Smith launched a hard slap shot that tipped off Mitch Stephens' stick tying the game at two.
Amarillo reclaimed the lead in the middle of the second period with a power play goal. Emery Olauson received a perfect pass from Maxime and promptly deposited it in the net.
The Gorillas pushed the lead back to two goals when Brent McConnachie scored the game's first full-strength goal at the 9:06 mark of the third period. Chris Robertson brought the Scorps back to within one late in the third period, but that would end the scoring for the evening.
EXHIBITION GAME
Tickets are still available for the exhibition game at the Chavez Center in Santa Fe on Saturday, October 11th. All seating is general admission and only $8. All proceeds from the game will benefit Santa Fe Youth Hockey. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
Tickets for the Scorpions game can be purchased over the phone by calling the Chavez Center box office at 505-955-4000. Tickets can also be bought in person at the Chavez Center box office located at 3221 Rodeo Road in Santa Fe. The box office hours are Monday-Saturday 9 a.m.-8 p.m.
