Bucks Drop Second Pre-Season Game To Bees

HIDALGO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell against the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 4-3 Friday night at the Dodge Arena, in each team's second pre-season game.

The Bucks had a 3-0 lead over the Killer Bees midway through the second period, but could not hang on as Rio Grande Valley scored the next four goals of the contest to hand Laredo their second straight pre-season setback.

Rookie forward Ryan Fuller scored two goals in a losing effort for the Bucks.

The Killer Bees fought all the way back from a 3-0 deficit to take a 4-3 lead with 7:01 remaining in the third period. Brian Bicek tallied a on the power-play, as he took a pass from Nicholas Dumoulin and sent a shot past Bucks rookie goaltender Ryan Gibb.

The Bucks jumped out in front early, as they light the lamp just 4:31 into the contest. Rookie Ryan Fuller scored his first goal of the pre-season, as he took a pass from fellow rookie Devin Featherstone and sent a shot past Killer Bee goaltender Wylie Rogers. Matt Summers was also credited with an assist on the tally.

Laredo would stretch their lead to 2-0 with 3:23 left in the opening period, when Erick Lizon picked up his second goal of the pre-season. Rookie Kevin Hurley handed out the assist on the tally.

The Bucks had a rough time on the power-play in the first period, as they came up empty on all six of their man advantages. The Killer Bees were whistled for 17 penalty minutes in the opening 20 minutes.

Laredo outshot Rio Grande Valley 11-8 in the first period, with Bucks rookie goaltender Mike Collichio setting aside all eight Killer Bee shot attempts.

The Bucks increased their lead to 3-0 early in the second period as Fuller scored his second goal of the night, this one 4:42 into the period. Fuller's tally came unassisted on the power-play.

The Killer Bees got on the board a little over three minutes later at the 7:56 mark of the period. Robin Bouchard picked up the marker for Rio Grande Valley as he scored past Mike Collichio.

Rio Grande Valley would cut Laredo's lead to 3-2, as they tallied with just 57 seconds left in the second period. Travis Banga scored his second goal of the pre-season, when he tallied while the Killer Bees were shorthanded past Laredo's rookie netminder Ryan Gibb. Gibb replaced Collichio near the end of the second period.

The Bucks would be outshot in the second period 14-7.

Laredo struggled on the power-play once again in the second period, as they were again 0-for-six with the man advantage, and gave up a short-handed goal.

The Killer Bees tied the game at 3-3 early in the third period, as Jesse Perrin scored a power-play goal off of a pass from Banga on the power-play, just 3:09 into the period.

Collichio stopped 20 of 21 Killer Bee shots, while Gibb set aside seven of 10 Rio Grande Valley attempts for Laredo in net.

Rogers played the whole game in net for the Killer Bees, and set aside 19 of 22 Laredo shots.

The Bucks will close out their pre-season schedule Saturday night when they take on the Corpus Christi Ice Rays at the American Bank Center. Game time is 7:05pm.

The Bucks open the 2008-09 season at the LEC on October 17th against the Rocky Mountain Rage.
