Oilers Rally Falls Short

Tulsa Oilers News Release

After a rather lackluster first 45 minutes in which they fell behind 4-0, the Tulsa Oilers scored the next three goals but it wasn't enough as the Oilers lost to Oklahoma City in a Central Hockey League preseason game 4-3 Thursday night at the Oilers Ice Center.

The rally started with two unusual goals. Chris Kovalcik (who scored in a shootout attempt Wednesday night at Wichita) scored on a penalty shot. Just 21 seconds later, Kelly Sickavish dumped the puck into the Blazers zone from the Center ice red line, and it took a bounce past goaltender Doug Groenestege to cut the lead to 4-2.

Buoyed by the break, the Oilers pressed to get within one and were finally able to do so when Kai Magnussen jammed in a goal mouth scramble with 30 seconds to play. The same two teams play Saturday night in Oklahoma City.

The Oilers will play their first home game in the BOK Center presented by U. S. Cellular, on Saturday October 25th, against the arch rival Oklahoma City Blazers. Season tickets for the Oilers 2008-09 season in the new BOK Center are available by calling the Oilers at (918) 632-PUCK (7825).
