Mississippi RiverKings News Release
SOUTHAVEN, MS --- Look for the Mississippi RiverKings to be out and about in the Mid-South community in the next few days. Here's a quick update of some the activities where you can find your home town hockey team!
Sunday, February 28th, both mascots Sheldon the Turtle and RiverThing will be on at 11:00 AM to help out when Youth Villages holds its Soup Sunday at FedEx Forum in Memphis. Youth Villages is a private, non-profit organization that's dedicated to helping emotionally and behaviorally troubled children and their families live successfully. More than 30 of the best restaurants in Memphis and the Mid-South serve up their favorite soup, bread, desserts and other delicacies at Soup Sunday, one of Youth Villages' most popular annual events.
Also on Sunday, the Kings Court Booster Club is holding a poker tournament as a fundraiser for the group that supports the RiverKings during the year. The event begins at 2:00 PM at Southland Park Gaming and Racing in West Memphis, Arkansas. The buy-in is $40.00 for individuals and $65.00 for couples. If you have a skill to bluff your way through, or just want to spend some time playing cards for a good cause, come on out and join the Booster Club members taking part in this event. If you're interested, you can sign up at the Booster Club table during RiverKings' games this weekend.
Several events are planned for this coming Monday, March 1st. RiverKings' forward Matt Summers, who also serves as team spokesman for the Assists for Autism program, will be on hand to visit with autistic students at Shadow Oaks Elementary School, 3780 Shadow Oaks Parkway in Horn Lake at 1:00 PM.
Members of the RiverKings will spend Monday night at the Ronald McDonald House, spending time with the youngsters at the facility, located at 535 Alabama Avenue in Memphis. This will be the third visit of the RiverKings to the Ronald McDonald House this year.
Many of the remaining players will be at the Southaven O'Charley's Restaurant, 357 Goodman Road West, between 6:00 and 8:00 PM Monday night, as broadcaster Bob Bakken airs his weekly coach's show broadcast from the restaurant on Sports 56, WHBQ-AM 560. The program airs from 7:00-8:00 PM with RiverKings coach Kevin Kaminski and player guests on hand. Fans are invited to come out and watch the program in person and also meet the players in attendance that night.
Next action on the ice for your Mississippi RiverKings will be Friday night, February 26th, when the RiverKings host the Wichita Thunder at the DeSoto Civic Center, starting at 7:05 PM. It'll be a key Northern Conference clash for the RiverKings, looking to move up in the standings with four weeks left in the regular season.
Down Syndrome Association of Memphis and the Mid-South will be featured. In addition, the Pink in the Rink Night jerseys will be worn by the RiverKings and will be auctioned off following the game, while a post-game skate is going on at the same time.
