Mississippi RiverKings News Release
Mississippi RiverKings captain Derek Landmesser and assistant captain Louis Dumont visited Olive Grove Terrace Senior Living facility on Monday, September 29th, as residents hosted a blood drive and collected 19 pints of blood, and had many more volunteer to give.
"One of our employees, June Barringer, recently went to the hospital and needed a donation of blood, but wasn't able to receive all that she needed due to low blood supplies," said Olive Grove Personal Care Assistant Marla Lee. "The residents wanted to supply the bank in her name so if more was needed for her, then it would be available, and also to help others so they could receive all they might require."
The players signed autographs for adoring young fans, passed out RiverKings prizes to blood drive participants and visited with residents.
"It was great to meet all the residents," Landmesser said. "We had a fun time joking around and talking to everyone."
"We had plenty to talk about, from hockey, to football, to the stock market," said Dumont. "It was a nice afternoon."
The Mississippi RiverKings are supported by their community partners, season ticket holders, fans, and by program-related investments of Maddox Foundation, an independent private foundation based in Hernando, Miss., to lessen the burden of the Desoto County government by increasing the viability of the Desoto Civic Center and promoting the long-term economic development of the community. The Foundation now uses the team in a variety of programs that increase investments in area charities and their causes.
