The RiverKings and Bucks are both coming off victories with Memphis having defeated Corpus Christi on Thursday 4-3 and Laredo picking up a 4-2 win at Rio Grande Valley last night. The Bucks have started slow at 2-4-0 after going to the Presidents Cup Finals the last two seasons. Last night, they were out-shot by the Bees 26-16 for the game and 6-1 in the third period, but three unanswered goals, two by James Hiebert, in the second period held up. The RiverKings improved to 2-2-0 by holding on after the Rayz rallied from a 4-0 deficit with three goals in a span of 40 seconds to make it 4-3 in the third period.

Tonights game will be the first of three meetings this season. Memphis is 2-3-0 all-time against the Bucks after the teams split their two games last season, Laredo winning 5-1 in Laredo and the RiverKings winning 8-0 at the DCC. Memphis has never won at the LEC, going 0-2-0 since Laredo came into the CHL in 2002. The teams will face-off at the DCC on January 14 and then again in Laredo on March 17.

INSIDE THE BUCKS 2005-2006 Record: 2-4-0 (3rd in SE Div) 2004-05 Record: 35-22-03

The Bucks 2-4-0 start is their worst since their expansion season of 2002-03 when they started 1-4-1. The team has had to battle early season injuries. Former CHL scoring champ Jeff Bes, defenseman Adam Davis, forward Francis Walker and former RiverKings goalie David Lemanowicz have all been on the IR in this young season. Bes and Lemanowicz were eligible to come of the IR yesterday. For the Bucks that are healthy, veteran Brent Cullaton, who has bounced back and forth between Laredo and their AHL affiliate San Antonio the past two seasons, leads the team in scoring with 2 goals and 10 assists. And after his two goal performance last night, James Hiebert leads the squad with 4 goals to go with 5 assists. Nathan Grobins has seen the majority of the time in the nets and is 2-3-0 with a 3.65 GAA and a .884 Save Percentage. To help alleviate the numbers problems that the injuries have been causing, Laredo brought back former Buck Winger Steve Simoes this week. Simoes had played for the Bucks the last two seasons and was in training camp with the ECHL Reading Royals this season.

RIVERKINGS HERE AND THERE

Derek Landmesser has at least one point and at least on assist in each of the first four games. Landmesser is currently second on the team in points (7) and assists (4) and is tied for the team lead in goals (3) with Don Parsons and Dorian Anneck. Landmesser recently picked up his 400th career point in the game last Saturday with Bossier-Shreveport.

Through 4 games, Anneck leads the RiverKings in points (9), assists (6) and is part of the trio with 3 goals. Also, Anneck picked up his 250th career assist last Saturday.

Stephen Margesons goal in Thursdays win at Corpus Christi was his sixth career goal and his first since 1/4/05 at Fort Worth. Five of his 6 goals have come in a RiverKings jersey.

The two games against the Bucks last season were two of the most lopsided games of the campaign. In the November 20 meeting in Laredo, the RiverKings had just 13 skaters and were never in the game as they lost 5-1 to finish a brutal 2 week, 8 city road trip. The game also featured 104 total PIM, 12 majors and a misconduct. In the January 29 rematch, the RiverKings flew to an 8-0 win. Parsons had a hat trick, Travis Banga scored a pair and finished with four points and Landmesser had a career high 5 assists. Lemanowicz collected what would be the only RiverKings shutout of the season.
