Austin Ice Bats News Release
The Ice Bats revved up their power play and defense on "NASCAR Night" at the Travis County Expo Center, blanking the Tulsa Oilers, 3-0 Saturday night. Austin goalie Matt Barnes stopped all 34 shots faced for the team's first shutout win of the season. The Ice Bats built a 2-0 first period lead on a couple of power play scores. Aaron Davis opened scoring 9:31 into the contest, and Gerald Tallaire added a man-advantage score at 15:07. The Ice Bats took a lead into intermission for the first time this season, outshooting the Oilers 12-6 in the process. Tulsa stormed back for a 16-5 shot advantage in the second period, but neither team scored. And the Bats wrapped up the game midway through the third when Davis' nifty move on the wing resulted in a backdoor goal for John McNabb. The Ice Bats finished with two power scores on 13 chances. The Bats will look for their first two-game winning streak of the season, as they wrap up the weekend with a 5:05pm game Sunday in Lubbock.
