RiverKings drop road trip finale in Austin

Austin, TX --- The Memphis RiverKings tried but could not come back from an early 3-0 second period deficit and eventually fell to the Austin Ice Bats 4-3 Wednesday night in Austin, TX. For the RiverKings, the loss snapped a three game winning streak. For Austin, it was their twelfth win in their last 14 games as they remained the hottest team in the CHL.

The Ice Bats scored a pair of goals in the first and one more on a five on three power play :17 into the second to build that 3-0 lead. Ryan Watson and Rob Ouimette cut into that lead with goals at 2:05 and 16:50 respectively of the period. For Watson, it was his 16th of the season and it extended his career high point streak to eight games.

The third period started with Austin holding the one goal lead. An Aaron Schneekloth redirection at 8:01 put the score at 4-2. Travis Banga cut that lead to one again 2:19 later with his 20th of the season. The remaining 9:40 went scoreless on both sides as Memphis wrapped up the seven game trip with a 3-3-1 record. The RiverKings played the second and third periods without the services of Captain and current CHL Player of the Week Don Parsons who left the game with an injury in the first period.

Memphis fell to 18-22-2 and will head home for three straight games beginning with the Youngstown Steelhounds on Friday night at 7:05.
