Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
Fort Worth - Left wing Sebastien Thinel led a balanced Odessa Jackalopes offensive attack on Tuesday night, scoring one goal and assisting on two others to help pace the Jacks to a 5-1 win over the Fort Worth Brahmas at the Fort Worth Convention Center.
Thinel, who entered the game tied for third in the CHL scoring race with 61 points (27G/34A), scored the only goal of the first period to stake Odessa to an early lead. In the second period, Thinel assisted on consecutive goals from defenseman Scott Hillman and center Matt Cressman to extend the Odessa lead to 3-0. Another Jackalope goal, from forward Jeff Ewasko at the 15:53 mark of the second, pushed the Odessa margin to 4-0 and chased Fort Worth starting goaltender Larry Sterling from the Brahmas net.
Ewasko welcomed Andrew Martin, Fort Worth's rookie backup netminder, with another score, tipping the puck past Martin for the fourth Odessa goal of the second period and their fifth of the game with just 2:03 left in the middle frame.
In the third period, Fort Worth avoided a shutout loss on Cory Stillman's powerplay goal at the 8:04 mark of the period. Stillman's goal, his Brahmas team high nineteenth of the season, set the final score at 5-1.
Jackalopes goaltender Derek Dolson stopped 28 of the 29 Fort Worth shots he faced to win for the sixth time this season. Sterling took the loss in net for Fort Worth, allowing the four Odessa goals on 20 shots. Martin made 12 saves on the 13 Odessa shots sent his way in the relief effort.
The loss for Fort Worth, their fourth in a row, drops the Brahmas record to 13-25-6 on the season. With the win, Odessa improves to 25-13-5 and extends their lead in the CHL's Southwest Division to twelve points over the Amarillo Gorillas.
The Brahmas will next be in action this Friday night, February 10, when they host the Laredo Bucks at 7:30 p.m. at the Will Rogers Memorial Coliseum. For additional information, please contact the Brahmas team office at (817) 336-4423.
