SOUTHAVEN, MS --- The Mississippi RiverKings of the Central Hockey League (CHL) continue making preparations for the upcoming season, its 19th year of professional hockey in the Mid-South, set to start in mid-October.

While that's a very important task to complete, the RiverKings are at the same time working to complete another important task, that of holding its seventh annual RiverKings Golf Scramble, presented by Emergency Mobile Health Care LLC, or EMHC, for the Jr. StreetKings youth roller hockey program in Hernando.

The annual event is the largest annual fundraiser for the Jr. StreetKings program, directed by RiverKings' team captain Derek Landmesser and operated as part of Hernando Youth Sports. The program holds spring and fall in-line hockey leagues for area youngsters and also conducts learn-to-skate camps for children wanting to learn about in-line skating and basically street hockey skills.

The Jr. StreetKings program is conducted each year at the covered rink facility of the Hernando Civic Center, off Gin Robertson Road in Hernando.

Jr. StreetKings Director Derek Landmesser notes the program has come a long way since its beginnings. "The Jr. StreetKings league began as a way to get young people and their families involved in hockey," Landmesser said. "It has evolved into a unique community program, and the roller hockey facility in Hernando has seen great improvements, as well."

Landmesser notes the funds from the tournament and grant support from the RiverKings' parent Maddox Foundation has helped add bleachers, scoreboard, dressing rooms, and industrial fans, to make the hockey experience more enjoyable for everyone.

This year's golf scramble will be held on Thursday, September 30th, at Ridgeway Country Club, located at 9800 Poplar Avenue in Germantown, Tennessee. Considered one of the finest country clubs in Tennessee, Ridgeway is also the oldest country club in Memphis, with its history dating back to being known as the Southern Club at its start in 1861.

This year's four-person scramble have a shot-gun start at 1:00 PM. Registration prior to the beginning of play will start at 11:30 AM with a lunch starting at 11:45 AM, sponsored by King Cotton. There will be a dinner served and awards presented at the conclusion of play, between 6:30 and 8:30 PM.

During the day's activities, a putting contest will be held, and a raffle and live auction of valuable sports memorabilia and other items will also take place.

Those who take part will also have the opportunity to meet RiverKings Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin "Killer" Kaminski and members of this year's RiverKings pre-season roster, who will be on hand to take part in the tournament.

All proceeds from the day's events will go to the Jr. StreetKings youth roller hockey program. Registration fees of $500 per team or $125 per individual golfer must be paid by September 20th to ensure a spot in the tournament. The golf fee includes the day's greens fee, cart usage, driving range usage, a large goodie bag with donated items, dinner and eligibility for prizes.

In addition to playing in the RiverKings Golf Scramble, supporters can donate to the tournament through sponsorships and donations. Contact the RiverKings for more information at 662-342-1755.

Please make all checks for the tournament payable to the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi and note on it, "For Jr. SK/RK Golf Tournament" on the check. You may also charge by phone by contacting the RiverKings offices.
