Gems Name New President

August 10, 2010 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Dayton Gems News Release

Dayton, OH- The Dayton Gems Ownership Group, proud member of the Central Hockey League, announced today the hiring of new team President Joe Greene. Greene spent last season as the Assistant General Manager for the then expansion Missouri Mavericks (also of the Central Hockey League).

"The Dayton Gems Professional Hockey Team is a business and should be run like one," said Gems Ownership Partner and Governor Rob Garfield. "In our search to find another piece of the puzzle to make Dayton Hockey successful, we found Joe. He is undeniably the perfect and absolute best candidate to fill this position in our organization. He has a proven track record in growing fan bases in two Professional markets with huge success. We are honored to have Joe lead our executive staff, and look forward to large crowds of exciting fans cheering on our home-town Professional Hockey Team."

Greene played a major role in helping the Mavericks to 16 sellout crowds (half of their home games last season) and leading the ticketing sales staff at the Mavericks to CHL records in Group Ticket Sales and Revenue. In addition to those distinguishing numbers, Greene helped the Mavericks staff earn CHL Group Sales Franchise of the Year, CHL Merchandising Franchise of the Year and CHL Franchise of the Year Runner-up. Attendance was not the only facet of the business that Greene excelled in either at Missouri; he sold over $200,000 in corporate partnerships.

Prior to his stint with Missouri, Greene spent four seasons as a key member of the Wichita Thunder front office staff, also as their Assistant General Manager. While at Wichita, Greene received the CHL Ticket Executive of the Year Award (2007) and was the Wichita Thunder Employee of the Year in 2005-06 (his first season with the Thunder). As if individual awards were not enough of an accolade to Greene, he also increased the group sales revenue by 326% during his time with Wichita. Greene played a major part in increasing the overall attendance by 2,200 fans per game in two seasons.

"First and foremost I want to thank the Ownership Group for giving me the opportunity to become the new President of the Dayton Gems," said Greene. "I am excited to work with an up and coming organization like the Dayton Gems who already has a fantastic front office staff in place from the ownership on down to new Head Coach and General Manager, Brian Gratz. We (Gems staff) are extremely excited to help grow the Gems into a Premier CHL hockey organization. My wife Sarah, my sons Justin (4), Drake (1) and I are looking forward to calling Dayton, Ohio home and moving closer to family."

"What fans can expect of the front office under my leadership is a lot of hard work and enthusiasm." stated Gems President Joe Greene. "Our team is going to be built around a structure that features outstanding customer service, family affordable entertainment, professionalism and team work, as well as a strong presence in the community. Our goal is to make our fans, corporate partners and season ticket holders proud of Dayton Gems Professional Hockey as we focus our eyes on building a winning product both on and off the ice. By combining all of these things we will be able to take this team and our organization to the next level."
