
RiverKings Blast the Brahmas, 7-2 at the DCC

(Southaven, MS) - The Mississippi RiverKings put up their highest scoring output of the season Friday night in stopping the Texas Brahmas 7-2, in front of 2,903 fans at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven.
New roster addition Dallas Steward scored a pair of goals and added an assist in his first appearance in a RiverKings' uniform. Bobby Chaumont scored a goal and added a pair of assist in the winning effort and four other players finished with a two-point night apiece.
Mississippi opened the scoring in the first period on a power play goal from Chaumont at the 6:56 mark of the frame. Chaumont was assisted on his 13th goal of the season (seventh power play goal) by Derek Landmesser and Stephen Margeson.
Texas answered with a goal from Jordan Cameron to tie the game at 1-1, but then Steward took over with two goals to give the RiverKings a 3-1 advantage at the first intermission.
The first goal from Steward came at the 16:34 mark, assisted by Garrett Larson and Stoddard. The second was at 17:40, assisted by Chaumont and Landmesser.
There was no scoring in the second period, as the RiverKings were out shot by the Brahmas 11-7, but held the 3-1 lead on the scoreboard.
But, the offense exploded in the third period for the RiverKings with three power play goals. Stoddard tipped a shot from Jeff Alcombrack at 3:43, and Steward also received an assist on the play.
Dane Marshall notched his fourth red-lighter of the year at 9:44 on the power play, assisted by Joe Markusen and Chaumont. The second power play goal of the third period came off the stick of Dallas Costanzo, his fifth goal and second power play tally of the year, assisted by Brad Bonello and Andrew Lackner at 10:02.
The final score came from Matt Pierce, his fourth goal and first man-advantage tally, at 17:04 of the third frame, assisted by Markusen and Marshall.
Kevin Beech won his 11th game of the season (11-6-0) with a 21-save performance. Brett Jaeger took the loss for Texas (9-3-2) with a 20 save effort, but allowed six goals before being replaced with about 10 minutes left in the game for back-up goalie Dave Cacciola, who allowed the last Mississippi goal by Pierce.
Mississippi had a season-high four power play goals in six attempts, while Texas was scoreless in three power play opportunities.
With the victory, the RiverKings are now 13-9-0 for the season and 6-3-0 at home. Texas fell to 13-7-2 for the year and is 4-5-1 away from their home arena.
