Killer Bees Show Their Stingers Against Scorpions

[HIDALGO, Tex]- Grant Goeckner-Zoeller scored three goals, picked up an assist and mixed in a fight leading Rio Grande Valley to a 6-2 victory over the Scorpions. The same two teams will battle again on Saturday night.

Rio Grande Valley was off and running when Brian Bicek scored 62 seconds into the contest. Grant Goeckner-Zoeller made it 2-0 when he picked up a turnover inside the zone and stuffed it under goaltender Jason Wolfe.

The Killer Bees again came out of the gate fast in the second period as Nathan Ansell scored at the 1:49 mark. Goeckner-Zoeller picked up his second goal of the game when a rebound came right to his stick. Rio Grande Valley made it 5-0 as Daryl Moore scored a power play goal 7:42 into the second period.

The Scorpions made some noise as John Mazzei found Mike MacDonald with an outlet pass at center ice. MacDonald came across the blue line and fed Jamie Herrington who scored his eighth goal of the year.

For the third straight period, Rio Grande Valley scored within the first two minutes as Goeckner-Zoeller completed his hat trick. The night's scoring finished as Seth Leonard backhanded in a rebound goal 11:47 into the final frame.

Saturday the Scorpions stay in Rio Grande Valley for a 6:35 p.m. face-off Listen to the game on 1050 KTBL. All games can be seen for free on the CHL Network.

The Scorpions return home for their annual "School Day Game" on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Enjoy a day off of work and catch a Scorpions game for $18 which includes an all you can eat special.

New Mexico is also home on Friday, December 19th and Saturday, December 20th against Colorado. The first 1,500 fans inside the Santa Ana Star Center Friday receive Chili's water bottles. Following Saturday's game the Scorpions players will be at the Chili's in Rio Rancho for a meet and greet.
