Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN---The Memphis RiverKings announced today(Thursday, October 28) that they will appeal the 25-game suspension handed down by the Central Hockey League to Defenseman Ted Crowley. The CHL suspended Crowley on Wednesday, October 27 for an incident that occurred in the game with the Tulsa Oilers on October 24.

In making its ruling, the league suspended Crowley for 10 games as a result of a stick-related incident at 18:44 of the third period that involved Tulsa's Mario Joly and was ruled by the league as "a deliberate attempt to injure."

Crowley was suspended an additional 15 games for an additional incident that followed the first. This one involved Tulsa's Devon Francon.

Crowley and Francon were engaged in the neutral zone, where Crowley was ruled to have "used his stick in a reckless manner, making contact with the head area" of Francon.

"We as a team and players need to take responsibility for our actions," RiverKings head coach Mark Richards said. "We don't condone these sort of stick infractions, but we feel that it doesn't warrant a suspension that covers half the season."

As a result of the suspension, the RiverKings will skate a man short for the first 10 games before they can fill the open roster spot.
