San Angelo Saints News Release
San Angelo, TX â The San Angelo Saints of the Central Hockey League announced today that they have signed three new players to their roster. Defensemen Andrew Nahirniak and Matthew Medley and forward Adam Stefishen will be on the roster for the Saints upcoming road games this weekend. The Saints also announced that defenseman John Jarram and forward Bryan Lachapelle and been waived from the team and forward Roan Balmpin has been put on the 45 day injured reserve list, after a 2nd degree tear of his MCL during the Saints home opener against Laredo last Friday night. "As a head coach you must always try and make your team better", stated Saints Head Coach Ray Edwards. "These new players have come highly recommended and have played at good levels of hockey, giving our team more depth going into this weekend."
Nahirniak, a 6'5" 230 lb. defenseman from Mississauga, Ontario, comes into the Saints organization without any pro games under his belt. Playing college hockey at Niagara University, Nahirniak played three years for the Division I school posting 8 goals, 12 assists and 102 penalty minutes in 83 games played, while helping the Purple Eagles to a NCAA Tournament Appearance and their second College Hockey America Tournament title last season. Medley, a 5'11" 195 lb. defenseman from Montreal, Quebec, will be another rookie added to the Saints roster. The last couple of seasons Medley has spent his time playing hockey in both the Quebec Major Juniors and the Quebec Junior A. Last year for the Terrebonne Cobras of the QJAHL, he amassed 51 points in 45 games played while racking up 104 penalty minutes. Stefishen, a 6' 200 lb. forward from North Vancouver, British Columbia, comes to the Saints from the Texas Wildcatters of the East Coast Hockey League, where he ended his season last year. Before going to the Wildcatters he was also with the Florence Price and Fresno Falcons, also of the ECHL. During his 2003-2004 season he posted combined numbers of 3 goals, 11 assists and 249 penalty minutes. "Adam is hopefully our answer to losing Blampin to his injury and Silverstone to his suspension", said Edwards. "Everyone I have talked to says he a gritty player and that is the role we need to fill right now."
In other news, David Silverstone will be out for 4 games with a suspension handed down from the Central Hockey League this week for an altercation Saturday night with Odessa Jackalope defenseman R.C. Lyke, where it was ruled that Silverstone bit Lyke during their fight. Silverstone will be able to hit the ice again for the Saints next home game versus the Amarillo Gorillas Tuesday, November 9th at 7 PM.
