HIDALGO, TX: October 27, 2004 – The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the Central Hockey League made a few roster moves in preparation of their home opening weekend today with the addition of defenseman Calle Aslund and forward Daymen Bencharski. To make room for the moves, the Killer Bees released rookie defenseman Matt Suderman.

Calle Aslund (kal-ee az-luhnd) is a 6'2" 208-pound native of Haninge, Sweeden, marking the first Swedish born player to dawn a Bees sweater. The young 21 year-old was drafted in 2001 by the Buffalo Sabres (8th round, 234th pick overall) in the NHL Draft, while playing junior hockey in Huddinge. Last season, Aslund saw time with Huddinge's junior team and their Sweden Div.2 league pro team, where he contributed 2 points (1g,1a) in 46 games and compiled 123 penalty minutes. Aslund played six seasons of junior hockey for Huddinge, beginning with the 99/00 season, and split each of the three previous seasons with Huddinge's junior and pro team. His junior career totals involved 3 goals and 18 assists for 21 points in 65 games. Aslund's European pro totals include 4 goals and 4 assists for 8 points and 236 penalty minutes in 109 games. He began this season in training camp with the Laredo Bucks and appeared in two preseason contests.

Bencharski (ben-char-skee) is a 25 year-old year old native of Beaverlodge, Alberta, who joins the squad after appearing in 7 games this season in Britain with the British National League's (BNL) Dundee Stars, which is the same club Ryan Shmyr's brother, Jason, plays for. The 5'11" 180-pound forward played 4 games of Winter Cup competition with Dundee, producing a goal and an assist for 2 points, and played 3 games of BNL league-play and contributed 3 assists and 20 penalty minutes. Bencharski turns pro this season after wrapping up a four-year career with Ohio State University from 2000-2004. His college numbers included 31 goals and 30 assists for 61 points in 130 games. He left OSU ranked fifth in single-season postseason goals with 4 during the 01/02 campaign and tied for seventh in career playoff goals with 5. Prior to attending OSU, Bencharski played from 1996-2000 in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) with the Bonnyville Pontiacs, where he combined for 194 points (91g,103a) in 210 games.

Suderman, who is released by the Killer Bees, was the only true first year rookie with the Bees and played in Saturday's 5-2 loss in Austin. The Winkler, Manitoba defenseman was a 2001 NHL Entry Draft selection by the Atlanta Thrashers and spent last season in the British Columbia Junior Hockey League (BCJHL) with the South Surrey Eagles.

The Bees will have Aslund and Bencharski on the roster in time for their weekend home opener against the Laredo Bucks Friday night at the Dodge Arena. The Killer Bees practiced the last two days in Corpus Christi and return back to the Dodge Arena for a morning practice on Thursday.
