Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC News Release
The Riverhounds FC Opened the 2006 season with a spectacular first half on Friday in front of 3111 people at Falconi Field in Washington, PA. The HOUNDS® under the direction of new head coach, Gene Klein, played an impressive first half scoring two goals.
Midfielder, Dan Hartung scored the first goal of the game in the fourth minute on an assist from veteran forward David Flavius. In the 39th minute, Flavius scored with an assist from Greg Victor.
The Riverhounds dominated play in the first half, holding the Harrisburg City Islanders scoreless through 45 minutes.
After the half time break, however, the City Islanders regrouped and game back strong. In the 53rd minute Teafore Bennett scored a goal on a penalty kick. Then in the 76th minute Jamel Mitchell scored a goal, tying the score at two.
"It was disappointing to lose a lead like that, but we played some very good soccer for most of the game, said head coach Gene Klein.
In a pre-game promotion, Pittsburgh Steelers' Jeff Reed was the winner in a kicking contest among former Steeler Matt Bahr, Washington Wild Things hitting coach Chris Carter and Riverhound FC goalkeeper Terry McNelis. Reed's was the only kick to go through the specified target.
The Riverhounds host the Western Mass Pioneers at home Saturday for their second match of the season. First kick is scheduled for 7:05. The first 1000 women will receive a pink Riverhounds Cap to celebrate mother's day. Prior to the match a clinic for players will take place as well as a Coaches clinic.
