Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC News Release
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Eagles remained undefeated to start the USL PRO season as Christian Meza had a goal and assist to lead his side to a 2-0 victory against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on Friday night at Queens Soccer Complex. The win was the Eagles' second of the season, and kept the Riverhounds winless in four games.
The Eagles got off to a perfect start as Christian Ramirez opened the scoring in just the third minute, Meza creating the opportunity for the rookie to score his second goal of the season. The Riverhounds were then reduced to 10 men in the 25th minute as Anthony Vazquez was shown a straight red card for a challenge from behind.
Charlotte was able to double its lead eight minutes into the second half, Meza stabbing home a loose ball inside the penalty area after Riverhounds goalkeeper Greg Blum had made a series of saves. Pittsburgh, down a man, was unable to find a response, allowing the Eagles to complete a four-game homestand undefeated to start the season.
The Riverhounds move on to face the Charleston Battery on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. The Eagles, meanwhile, hit the road for the first time as they visit the Richmond Kickers on Saturday, May 4 at 7 p.m.
