Eagles Beat Pittsburgh 2-0

Charlotte, NC -- The Charlotte Eagles extended their unbeaten streak to four games with a 2-0 win over the visiting Pittsburgh Riverhounds tonight at Queens Sports Complex. The Eagles were led by goals from Christian Ramirez and Christian Meza while getting another strong performance by goalkeeper Eric Reed and the defense.

Christian Meza found Christian Ramirez open at the back post for Charlotte's first goal of the night in the 3rd minute. In the 15th minute mark, Pittsburgh's Kevin Kerr tested Eric Reed with a chip but Reed was able to get a hand to it to keep it out of the net.

In the 25th minute, Riverhounds defender Anthony Vazquez would be sent off for a tackle from behind on Christian Meza forcing Pittsburgh to play a man down. Jorge Herrera took a flick on from Christian Meza in the 33rd minute and sent his first shot of the year over the bar.

The Eagles ended the 1st half with a 1-0 lead.

Christian Meza drove home a third rebound opportunity to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead in the 54th minute. Riverhounds goalkeeper Greg Blum made three fine point-blank saves before Meza finished his chance.

The pace slowed in the 2nd half as Charlotte controlled much of the possession against 10 man Pittsburgh. Eric Reed was tested a couple of times in the 2nd half by the Riverhounds but was able to maintain his shutout with six saves on the night. With the win Charlotte ends a four game homestand with two wins and two draws for a total of eight points voRU-5jsQKlor-HykTsP9Y1ok_pew5-A==].

The loss drops Pittsburgh to 0-3-1 on the season, the Riverhounds now travel to Charleston to take on the Battery Saturday night at Blackbaud Stadium.

The attendance was 623.

The Eagles take to the road this coming Saturday, May 4th for their first road game against the Richmond Kickers.
