Rockford RiverHawks News Release
Kalamazoo, MI-In their second game of their six game Eastern road trip, the Rockford RiverHawks(8-9) were met by a three home run Kalamazoo performance in a 7-6 loss. Rockford took the lead in the second inning, on back to back RBI groundouts, but during the course of the game Kalamazoo battled back, and tied the game. The first of the Kings' homers came in the 5th inning, when Chris Carter hit a two run shot off starter Frank James, and then a homer in the sixth and seventh innings gave Kalamazoo all of the runs that they would need to ensure a victory. In their half of the ninth inning, the RiverHawks cut the lead to one, after a fielder's choice by Tony Pigott brought in Ben Fjelland. However, pinch hitter Trevor Hall hit a fly ball that was easily caught to end the ball game.
Rockford starter Frank James got a no decision, after pitching six innings and giving up two of Kalamazoo's three home runs. Justin Olson, who came in to relieve James in the sixth, picked up the loss, and is now 0-1 on the year. Reliever Lee Naplin, pitching for the second straight night against the RiverHawks in relief, picked up the win, and Greg Wiltshire earned his fourth save of the season, tying him with Rockford's Justin Dowdy and Washington's Anthony Kozol for the league lead. What killed the RiverHawks in the ball game was stranding 11 baserunners, compared to five stranded by the Kalamazoo Kings.
The âHawks now take a trip to Washington, PA's Falconi Field, for a short two game set against last year's Eastern Division Champion, and current Eastern Division leaders, the Washington WildThings(11-5). Scott Sobkowiak(1-3) takes the mound for his fifth start of the season, as he will be taking on WildThings' right hander Clayton Ewen(0-2). Game time is scheduled for 6:05 p.m., with the pre-game show with Bill Czaja starting at 5:50 on WRHL 102.3 FM The Hub, or by accessing the RiverHawks website at www.rockfordriverhawks.com.
